Mass transport in carbon membranes

چکیده
Carbon molecular sieve membranes (CMSMs) are inorganic produced by carbonization of a thermosetting polymer. The selection the adequate polymer, conditions and post-carbonization treatment allow production large variety porous structures. mass transport species through these structures is not easy to model in detail. This review reports last developments field CMSMs. membrane also briefly touched upon, followed definition equations description detailed models for membranes.

Fast mass transport through carbon nanotube membranes.
The May 19, 2006 issue of Science included a paper by Holt et al. on "Fast Mass Transport Through Sub-2-Nanometer Carbon Nanotubes". The paper was also featured on the cover, showing methane molecules translating inside a carbon nanotube (CNT). The authors explained how they prepared 2-6-mum thin membranes consisting of double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWNTs) all aligned perpendicular to the app...
متن کاملSelective Mass Transport of CO2 Containing Mixtures through Zeolite Membranes
In this work, the main aspects regarding the permeation of mixtures containing CO2 and permanent gases such as H2 , N2 and CH4 through zeolite membranes have been investigated, focusing on the description of the mass transport mechanisms taking place inside the pores. First, a brief overview about the performance of the main zeolite membranes used in gas separation (e.g. DDR, CHA, AEI, FAU, etc...

Several membrane channels, like aquaporin-1 (AQP1) and the RhAG protein of the rhesus complex, were hypothesized to be of physiological relevance for CO(2) transport. However, the underlying assumption that the lipid matrix imposes a significant barrier to CO(2) diffusion was never confirmed experimentally. Here we have monitored transmembrane CO(2) flux (J(CO2)) by imposing a CO(2) concentrati...
متن کاملMass Transport in Thin Supported Silica Membranes
In this thesis multi-component mass transport in thin supported amorphous silica membranes is discussed. These membranes are micro-porous, with pore diameters smaller than 4Å and show high fluxes for small molecules (such as hydrogen) combined with high selectivities for these molecules with respect to larger ones. The chemical and thermal stability of silica membranes are favourable compared t...
